AS: Aerospace Standard
AS9100 is the current quality management standard specifically written for the aerospace industry. (In 1997, the Federal Aviation Administration [FAA] and others deemed ISO standards inadequate for the “high risk” aerospace industry.)

CAGE Code: Commercial and Government Entity Code
A unique five-character identifier assigned to contractors doing business with the Federal Government, NATO member nations, and other foreign governments. CAGE codes are assigned by The Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS).

Cost Proposal
Part of a business’ response to an RFP that outlines the personnel, materials, etc. and associated costs needed to complete a project.
Deliverables
Materials developed as a result of the contracted work. Materials may remain property of the developer or become property of the funding agency. RFP guidelines typically specify which party retains or acquires rights to deliverables.

Statements of what is to be accomplished through the scope of work. Goals should be specific but may not have a deliverable attached.
ISO: International Organization for Standardization
(The name “ISO” comes from the Greek isos, meaning “equal.” The name is the same in every country.)

This document is designed to collect information from suppliers/vendors to determine their capabilities, skills and experience. The RFI is likely to be brief with little or no details about or commitment to begin a specific project. An RFI may be used to identify businesses that will receive an RFP.

This document contains very detailed information about a specific project and outlines minimum bidder-eligibility requirements. Responses to an RFP must clearly outline how a business would go about performing the work and how much that work would cost.

Part of a business’ response to an RFP that outlines how the scope of work will be accomplished, the goals and outcomes to be achieved. A technical proposal may also contain a description of the bidder’s qualifications.
